iPhone FAQ
From the main screen, click on the System Settings icon, , and select those images you want displayed.
Here’s a couple things you can try:
- Exit from TCM Clinic Aid and then restart your device. Then startup TCM Clinic Aid and go back in to Quiz Yourself.
- If that doesn’t clear up the problem, go into the Shopping Cart and re-download the Quiz Yourself app. You’ve already paid for it so you won’t be charged again. Just answer yes to all the prompts. Once it’s download, then go back into Quiz Yourself.
To backup/restore your user database, go to the System Settings icon, , scroll down to the bottom of the screen and touch the ON/OFF slider to ON at the item named Enable on WLAN. This will result in an Address being presented. Copy this address and enter it into your browser on you PC/Mac. You will then be connected to your iPhone/iPod where you will find instruction for backing up or restoring your User database.
From the main screen, click on the System Settings icon, , scroll down to Show Traditional Ordering and touch the ON/OFF slider to ON. This will affect Acupuncture Points, Six Stages and Four Level Diagnosis.
From the main screen, click on the System Settings icon, , scroll down to Search using these tables.
- Go to the table you want to modify, i.e. Points.
- Click on the blue dot to the right of the table name
- Check/uncheck those fields you want/don’t want included when doing a search.
iTunes keeps track of add-on purchases. Go back into the Shopping Cart, , in TCM Clinic Aid and after the screen finishes loading, click on the Restore button in the upper right corder. This will take you through the restore process to reload all of your previously purchased add-ons.
You will be prompted for the UserID/Password you used when you originally purchased these items AND, most important, that you used when you originally purchased TCM Clinic Aid. iTunes, which manages all purchases, is very strict regarding authentication.
I try to answer all emails within 12 hours after receving them (and I generally do within hours). There have been a number of cases where I sent an email response that bounced back. Problem was that the user had mistyped the email address.
I believe in prompt technical support. So, if you haven’t received an email in 12 – 24 hrs after sending one, check to make sure it didn’t get intercepted by the spam filter on your email account. And make sure you type in your email address correctly.
Herbs, in the Materia Medica section of TCM Clinic Aid, have been updated to the latest version of Bensky. Below is a list of herbs names that have changed in order to be more consistent with the primary resources (also including Chen & Chen).

This actually does exist. You do have the ability to create favorite lists. A favorite list can be created for Auricular, Diagnosis, Herbs, Formulas, and Points.
From the main screen of TCM Clinic Aid, click on the Signpost, , at the lower right corner, and then click on the link to Using Favorite Lists. This will explain how to setup your favorite list and how to use them.
Once you have created your list, let’s say for Herbs, when you are in Quiz Yourself, you would select, for example:
- Test Area: Herbs,
- Test Type: Identification by Image,
- select Specifics tab,
- instead of selecting a category, you can select to be tested on you Favorite List. This option will appear after 20 Random Herbs, i.e., 10 Favorite Herbs.
There’s also another way for testing subsets of herbs and formulas. You can, starting in 1.2.5, create your own herb and formula categories. You can populate them with the herbs and formulas of your choice, and then test yourself on these categories.
In theory everything should be “migrated” over to the new device. It’s all in the hands of iTunes doing the backup and restore.
To be safe, it is a good idea to do a backup of the TCM User database (your changes). This is easy to do, just click on the Signpost on the main TCM Clinic Aid screen and go to Database Maintenance section. This will explain how to backup the database to your PC/Mac. In the event the migration doesn’t work, you can restore your database to the new device.
Unfortunately not. TCM Clinic AidHD has been totally rewritten, taking advantage of the architecture of the iPad. - Ability to create Treatment Protocols,
- Ability to change the display font and size to meet your viewing needs,

After scouring through the Apple development forums regarding this issue, it appears that this MAY be a image library permission issue. One of the suggested solutions is to just sync your device with iTunes.
This is a search configuration setting that you need to change:
- Start up TCM Clinic Aid
- Select the Toolbox, lower left corner icon
- Scroll down to “Search using these tables ….” and go a little further until you see Points.
- Click on the blue icon to the right of the Points entry
- Scroll down to the bottom to the entry Pinyin (i.e., He Gu)
- Click on this entry to select it (you are telling the search routine to also look at the pinyin name, without tonemarks).
- Back out of these screens to the main page and do a search on the point name. Remember I separate the name components, He Gu, not HeGu. Also with He Gu, put quotes ‘He Gu’ or “He Gu” around the name.
When making an In-App Purchase, you will be prompted for the UserID/Password you used when you originally purchased TCM Clinic Aid.
iTunes, which manages all purchases, is very strict regarding authentication, so if you get a message that you need to purchase the app first, the UserId/Password you are using doesn’t match iTunes records.
Here’s a link to the Apple support area that handle issues with AppleID (login and password) issues:
https://www.apple.com/support/appleid/
iTunes keeps all purchase information and handling to themselves. So the user has to deal with them directly.
There is an issue with running the iPhone version of TCM Clinic Aid on an iPad that was not found during testing. It appears to be work OK under iOS5 but not under iOS6. It has to do with changing the orientation of the iPad from portrait to landscape orientation while running TCM Clinic Aid.
Try the following temporary solution, which involves, first, killing the TCM Clinic Aid process:
- Double click the home button to reveal the row of apps below the dock
- Slide the apps from side to side to find TCM Clinic Aid
- When you find it, tap and hold the app icon until a red badge with a line through it appears. The app icon will also wiggle like they do when you’re rearranging them
- When the red badge appears, tap it to kill the app
- When you’re done, click the home button again to return to using your iPad.
Now, start TCM Clinic Aid and keep the iPad in portrait orientation. Again, the issue was due to switching back and forth between portrait and landscape orientation.
A permanent solution is being investigated.
